Universidade Lusíada de Famalicão and CLEGI (Centro Lusíada de Engenharia e Gestão Industrial) announce the organization second edition of the International Conference on “Managing Services in the Knowledge Economy”, (MSKE 2011) to be held from July 13h to 15th 2011. This event is the natural follow up of the success of the first edition of MSKE in 2009 http://clegi.fam.ulusiada.pt/MSKE2009/. In 2009 we had 90 abstracts, 60 papers, from 20 countries, making a charming and very warm, even if not very big conference. Anyway it was a scientific and human success. For 2011 we present a reshuffled and reinforced team, and we want to build on our experience.
Universidade Lusíada de Vila Nova Famalicão (ULF) is part of Universidades Lusíada, a group of private Universities located in Lisbon, Porto and Famalicão, and owned by the Minerva Foundation. Universidades Lusíada was founded in the 1980s by Professor António Martins da Cruz, who is their mentor and alma mater. In the academic year of 2009-10 Universidades Lusíada had around 10000 students, in Lisbon, Porto and Famalicão in 60 first degree courses, 40 second degree courses and 10 PhD courses. At ULF we celebrated our 20th anniversary in 2009. And in the academic year of 2009-10 we achieved a record number of 1600 students in first degree courses, in three Faculties (Economics, Engineering and Architecture). Ministered courses relate to Architecture, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Marketing, Economics and Accountancy. ULF is responsible for the provision of a significant number of training courses for the local community.

CLEGI is a Research Centre devoted to develop a close cooperation and coordination of R&D activities between the two main research areas in the field of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Management. It is composed by 16 researchers including 14 PhDs from the areas of Engineering, Management, and Economics. In 2008 CLEGI received the classification of “Very Good” by an International Panel of Evaluators in the Evaluation made by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. ULF also hosts the Observatory of Growth and Sustainability, which is part of the Faculty of Economics.
MSKE 2011 will also follow the ECKM 2010 http://www.academic-conferences.org/eckm/eckm2010/eckm10-home.htm which was held in our University in the beginning of September.
The Place
ULF is located in the hearthland of the Portuguese industrial live, in the district of Braga. Near Famalicao are located two of the most important Portuguese cities (Porto and Braga), as well as a network of dynamic small cities: Guimaraes, Barcelos, Vila do Conde and Povoa do Varzim.
Famalicão is also a new city, celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2010.
We are a small school, and we believe that small is better and that small can be best. The belief is based on the premise that quality is the central characteristic of any successful University.
Quite crucially, we believe in the decisively important areas of Human Relations and conviviality, in the educational process and in the Economy: that conviviality is enhanced in small schools, located in small cities, like ours.

The Team
For this conference we gathered together a team of 26 scholars from 16 countries (Austria, Brazil, Canada, Croacia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, the UK, and the USA) that will assure the making of 15 streams, in different areas on the Management of Services in the Knowledge Economy.
