Dr. Christiaan Stam(1965) is Associate Professor at the Centre for Research in Intellectual Capital at INHOLLAND University of Applied Sciences (www.inholland.nl/intellectualcapital). Central themes in his work are knowledge management, intellectual capital measurement and knowledge productivity. In 1999 he initiated www.intellectualcapital.nl, a startpage for the IC-community. In December 2007 he successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis in Knowledge Productivity at Twente University, The Netherlands. Dr. Melanie Powell is a reader and principal tutor in the Derbyshire Business School of the University of Derby. She began her career as a research fellow in the Centre for Health Economics at York University, then as a principal lecturer and head of economics at Leeds Metropolitan University, before moving on to become director of undergraduate studies and executive MBAs at Leeds University. Her research publications as an applied economist cover health economics, addiction behaviour, transport decisions, business behaviour and financial decision making. The common theme is behaviour under risk. Her focus is now on behavioural finance and aspects of training and decision making in relation to older workers in the financial sector

Dr. Maria do Rosário Cabrita holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Institute of Economics and Business Administration, Lisbon Technical University). She is Assistant Professor and researcher at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa. She is also Assistant Professor at the Portuguese Banking Management School in Lisbon. She teaches several disciplines in graduate and post-graduate courses (Project Management; Strategic Management; Knowledge Management; Marketing and Innovation; Banking Financial Analysis; Assets and Liabilities Management). She also teaches public administration disciplines in INA – Instituto Nacional de Administração.
Involved in international projects (in Africa and Europe) she also works as consultant in private and public sectors. She has several years of experience in various management positions in international banks. She is member of the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Business and Systems Research and participates as Committee member in several international conferences. She has more than 50 published articles in conferences, books and scientific specialized journals.
She has received some papers-award in Portugal and abroad. In January 2005, Maria do Rosário received the Edvinson-Saint Onge’s best paper award at the 26th McMaster World Congress.

Dr. Jiří Strouhal (Ph.D., FAIA, CAT, ECA, FWBI, SMAWB) is Senior Lecturer of the Department of Financial Accounting and Auditing of the University of Economics Prague, Czech Republic. He specialises on reporting of SMEs and reporting of financial securities. He wrote more than 20 monographers and more than 10 papers listed on reputed research databases (ISI, SCOPUS). During the period 2007 – 2009 he was also a member of Committee for Education and Certification of the Union of Accountants Czech Republic. Currently, he is an acting Vice President of Chamber of Certified Accountants Czech Republic.

We are living in the knowledge economy. Yet even now intangible capital, from employee training to brands, is scarcely valued systematically at all. That is a bad thing: the cost of capital is too high for knowledge-intensive companies, investors and lenders are missing out on potential earnings and the economy on potential growth. A lack of suitable methods is perceived as the key obstacle to more extensive valuation.
Papers targeted namely to the following research topics would be welcome:
- The importance of valuing intangibles in the scope of banking credit analysis
- The role of accounting standards in the Intangible Economy
- The importance of creating a common language, both in communication between the company and the capital market and between capital market and participants
- How investors and lenders can gain from more systematic valuation of intangible capital
- The critical role of market discipline and pubic disclosure under the Basel II capital standards. A number of studies have concluded that weaknesses in market discipline (Basel II’s Pillar 3) have contributed to many of recent financial crises.

She did a Master degree on Cultural Marketing and finishing her PhD on the Measurement of Brand Equity in Fashion Companies, both in Economics University of Porto. Since 1995, she teaches Marketing, Statistc and Econometrics at the Universidade Lusíada Famalicão and Porto. She has published several papers and books on marketing and statistic.

Consumers and the general public are increasingly interested in socially responsible behavior of companies. The increase in this interest justifies the business investment and government support, which may be emphasized in times of economic crisis, for all the advantages that might ensue. The current importance of the theme is evidenced in a communication by the European Commission concerning the publication of its "European Competitiveness Report 2008":“When re-launching the Lisbon Strategy in 2005, the Commission stated that Corporate Social Responsibility “can play a key role in contributing to sustainable development while enhancing Europe’s innovative potential and competitiveness”. The importance of CSR cannot be overestimated, not least since one lesson from the current financial crisis is that socially responsible entrepreneurs and CEOs are of utmost importance for the wellbeing of our societies”.

Dr. Gary N. McLean was born in 1942 and grew up in London, Ontario, Canada. He graduated from Graceland College in pre-commerce in 1961, the University of Western Ontario in 1964 (Honors B.A. in business administration and secretarial studies), Teachers College, Columbia University in business education (M.A., 1965; Ed.D., 1971), and United Theological Seminary in New Brighton, MN, in 1983 (M.Div.). Prior to his current position, Gary taught at Quinsigamond Community College in Worcester, MA; worked in the Research and Evaluation Office of the City University of New York; was an instructor and acting department head in Business Education at Teachers College, Columbia University; and Professor and Coordinator, Human Resource Development and Adult Education, and Morse Alumni Distinguished Teaching Professor, Work and Human Resource Education, University of Minnesota, St. Paul, MN, for 38 years and is now a Professor Emeritus. He has been a visiting professor in many universities around the world.

Dr. Manfred Bonnerman is researcher, reviewer and lecturer in the field of intellectual capital statements, organizational development and management of R&D networks with regular publications of academic articles, papers, books and book chapters related to intellectual capital, knowledge management and innovation. He is co-founder of Arbeitskreis Wissensbilanz, a German based international group that successfully developed and promoted a guideline for Intellectual Capital Reporting for SMEs, and was involved in the EU-funded research project InCaS. Since 1998 he is running a consulting business and advices companies on reporting and strategic management of Intellectual Capital.

Dr. Aino Kianto is a Professor of Knowledge Management in the School of Business at Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland. Her teaching and research focus on knowledge management, intellectual capital, creativity, innovation and organizational renewal. Her current interests include the knowledge-based view of the firm and measurement of knowledge-related phenomena in organizations. She has authored and co-authored several academic articles, papers, books and book chapters related to knowledge management, intellectual capital and innovation. Today most of economic value creation is based on intangible resources and capabilities, i.e. intellectual capital (IC). In the service sector the role of IC as a value driver is likely to be especially important. However little research exists on the particularities of IC in the service sector. Consequently, in this stream both theoretical and empirical papers are sought for which can address for example the following issues:
- Are there some particularities in the IC of service organizations as opposed to other types of organizations?
- Creating, managing and protecting IC stocks and flows in the service sector
- Antecedents and processes of IC building, creation, modification and change in the service sector

Dr. Joaquim Ramos Silva Associate Professor with “Habilitation” at the Institute of Economics and Management/Technical University of Lisbon. He earned his PhD in «Analyse et politique économiques» at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, Paris. He is the author of four books where are included: Portugal/Brazil: A Decade of Booming Economic Relations, 1992-2002 (Terramar, Lisbon, 2002), and States and Firms in the World Economy (Vulgata, Lisbon, 2002), and also participated in the edition of three. He has published many articles in international refereed journals (among others, in Journal of Economic Studies, Studies in Regional Science, RAE – Revista de Administração de Empresas – FGV/SP, Lusotopie), chapters of collective books, and other publications; making a total over one hundred titles. He was visiting professor or scholar at the University of São Paulo, Hitotsubashi University, University of Orléans, Kiel Institute of World Economics, Texas A&M University, UFMG/Belo Horizonte, and CETEM/Rio de Janeiro. He was involved in many projects, including consultancy, sponsored by international organizations such as ECLAC, CNPq, Commissariat Général du Plan, EU (Tempus Phare, MEPSIR, etc.). His main research area is international economic relations, and more specifically: international trade and foreign direct investment analysis and policies, the process of firms’ internationalization, economic integration, globalization and international organizations. He supervised, already concluded, six PhDs and more than thirty master dissertations.

Dr. Anthony Wensley is an Associate Professor of Information Systems and Accounting at the University of Toronto Mississauga and the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto, Canada. He is also the Director of the Communications, Culture and Information Technology program at the University of Toronto Mississauga. He has degrees from the University of Cambridge and the University of Surrey in the UK and McMaster University and the University of Waterloo in Canada. His current research interests include issues concerning the implementation and use of enterprise-wide systems, most particularly, Enterprise Resource Planning systems. The principal concern on this research is on how such systems interact and change knowledge retention and use at an organizational and individual level.
His other principal area of research relates to the management of knowledge and intellectual property in complex, dynamic knowledge domains. This research focuses on concerns relating to such domains as systems biology with particular reference to patenting and, more generally, the structure and creation of knowledge. Anthony Wensley has been published widely in leading journals and has authored a book on Knowledge Based Systems and many book chapters. He has also been the executive editor of Knowledge and Process Management for over ten years.

This Stream aims to provide a substantial contribution, either conceptual or empirical, to the area of KM in terms of the improvement and the refinement of theories, approaches, methodologies, tools and techniques, and applications in order to replicate, support and challenge existing studies as well as to offer new applications of existing theory and approaches to drive organizations towards a better understanding of KM. Specifically, the objective will be to disseminate fresh insights with a number of timely and informative articles on contemporary KM. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

Dr. Gaby Neumann Gaby Neumann received a PhD in Logistics from the University of Magdeburg for her dissertation on “Knowledge-Based Support for the Planner of Crane-Operated Materials Flow Solutions”. From December 2002 to June 2009 she was Junior Professor in Logistics Knowledge Management at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering there. In December 2009 she became Professor on Engineering Logistics at the Technical University of Applied Sciences Wildau. Her current activities and research interests are mainly linked to fields like problem solving and knowledge management in logistics, logistics simulation and planning, and especially technology-based logistics learning, didactics of teaching logistics as well as logistics competence profiling and assessment. Gaby Neumann has widely published in those fields and regularly presents related research papers at national and international conferences.

Dr. Helmut Zsifkovits is Head of the Chair of Industrial Logistics at the University of Leoben (www.unileoben.ac.at). Helmut Zsifkovits received a Diploma in Business Administration and a PhD in Executive Information Systems from the University of Graz. After several positions held in research and industry, including Information Center Manager of UBG, a DaimlerChrysler company, and executive director of the Austrian Logistics Association, he has been active in teaching and research at the MUL since 2005, with special interests in logistics and process management, complexity and agility research, and information systems. The current research focus is on measurement of intangible assets in organizations, like competence or agility. Teaching assignments include Information Technology in Logistics and several areas of strategic logistics and supply chain management.

Papers in the stream are invited (but not limited) to address the following questions:
1. Logistics Knowledge:
- When designing or running logistics services a lot of knowledge is used or generated. What type of knowledge is it? How can we access, maintain, re-use it? How it is managed and by whom?
- Does knowledge has an impact on logistics services? What kind of impact - direct or indirect? How it can be determined and measured?
2. The role of Knowledge/KM:
- What is the role of knowledge management in logistics companies? Do we need a benchmark for it and if so what could be appropriate benchmarking procedures, measures, ways of running or distribution methods ?
3. The impact of KM:
- What is the impact of knowledge sharing in supply chains? How can the effects be assessed? Which logistics performance indicators are effected?
- Are there measurable impacts on bullwhip effect, stock levels, stock-outs and costs?
- Does data quality in production systems and/or inter-enterprise KM systems have relevant effects on supply chain performance? Which approaches are used to assess and improve data quality?
4. Logistics KM in Cases (practical experiences and there theoretical background):
- What are successful (or even unsuccessful) KM implementations in logistics companies/organizations?
- What are best practices to be shared, what are problems or challenges to be aware of?
- Is there sector or national studies on the role of knowledge in logistics services and companies?
We will be also glad to provide a platform for discussing your specific needs for KM in logistics and your specific problems in implementing KM in a logistics/supply chain background.

We welcome studies and surveys that show the value knowledge as a strategy and management tool in different social environments, in the multipolar world of 2010. We encourage studies on the BRICs, African countries, Arab countries, as well in the OECD countries. Are there specificities in the knowledge of services in these countries?
We will also accept articles that discuss impacts and submit proposals to strengthen the debate in the theoretical and methodological area of the Knowledge Economy of countries and regions.

Dr. Eduardo Tomé is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics at Universidade Lusiada in Famalicão, Portugal. He made his PhD thesis in Economics at the Technical University in Lisbon in 2001. The thesis topic was the evaluation of European Social Fund operations in Portugal. Since then he has taught in several Portuguese universities, presented and published extensively in international conferences and referred journals on Human Resource, Intellectual Capital, Knowledge Management and Social Policies. He is the Head of the Observatory for Sustainability and Growth at Lusíada Famalicão. He was Programme chair of ECKM 2010 and of MSKE 2009, both Conferences having been held in Lusíada Famalicão in the last two years.

Besides her teaching activities, her research areas of interest include Knowledge Management, Intellectual Capital and Electronic Government. She had presented and published many of her research papers on knowledge management in public sector organisations at international conferences and for journal articles and book chapters. She had also being appointed as a conference committee member and paper reviewer of the European Conference on Knowledge Management in 2009 (ECKM 2009) in Italy and the forthcoming ECKM 2010 in Portugal.

Dr. Blazenka Knezevic holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Zagreb, Croatia). She is Assistant Professor at Department of Trade. She teaches several graduate and post-graduate courses: Retail information systems; Economics of electronic commerce; Trade and trade policy; Procurement management and Business Excellence. She is a researcher on several scientific research projects funded by Ministry of Science of Croatia and a team member of several professional research projects. She did a Master degree on electronic office procedures in retail companies and PhD on „Importance of knowledge in value creation in trade“. She has published more than 30 papers in conferences, books and academic journals. She is a member of the editorial board of the Business Excellence Journal.

Retail industry is an important part of each national economy (in some European countries even 25% of all active companies are operating in this industry). Research studies shows that there are several ongoing trends in this industry in last ten years, those are: concentration of capital, internationalization of business operations and a high pace of technical innovation. On the other hand, economic crisis has a very strong impact on this industry. As there is a positive correlation established between value creation and knowledge utilization in retail companies, it is necessary to address following issues:

A social media enthusiastic, Daniela started twintangibles with Tim, determined to convert others into “believers” in the unexploited power of Social Media. After a Masters level degree in Translation and Languages for International Communication, Daniela worked as an Evaluation and Research Manager at the Intellectual Assets Centre (Scotland), gaining a lot of useful insight into Scottish business landscape as well as a strong practical knowledge in intangibles and how to exploit them to generate business value. Daniela recently gained her Master in E-learning and occasionally works as an e-tutor for the Italian University of Tuscia. She is currently pursuing her MBA to formalize and acknowledge her business insight. All her interests and skills are now coming together to explore and exploit the diversity of applications of Social Media, a distinctive point of twintangibles.

Dr. Tim Wright has worked as a consultant, practitioner and senior manager with a number of global commercial organisations including Egon Zehnder International and McKinsey & Co. For five years he was part of the executive management team of ITI Scotland – a £500M innovation programme based around a highly collaborative open innovation model. A graduate of both Durham University and Robert Gordons Universtity has an MBA with Distinction from the ULSM, and is a past winner of the Ashridge/Guardian MBA Essay of the Year. His understanding of the Social Media Mindset as an enabler for radical and innovative change in both business and society inspired him to set up twintangibles with Daniela as a mechanism to commercialise their joint Social Media research.

The adoption of Social Media continues to grow rapidly in today’s business environment. However, such acceleration in practical use of SM, has resulted in research lagging behind. Without clear and compelling models for application and exploitation, the uptake of these tools could remain patchy and largely unexploited. João Joanaz de Melo holds a BSc (1985) and a PhD (1992) in Environmental Engineering. He is Assistant Professor at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, conducting teaching, research and consultancy on ecodesign, impact assessment, energy efficiency and sustainability policy, among other fields. He has supervised applied research in cooperation with business involving over 140 partnerships. He is author of the popular science book “What is Ecology” and 65 international scientific papers. Ever a lover of Nature, he was a founder of the environmental ngo GEOTA, serving currently as chairman of the board.
